The Responsible Used Oil Management Foundation is working towards a future where used oil is managed responsibly, not wasted. Through health camps for used oil collectors, school education programmes, public awareness, and community initiatives, we encourage responsible practices that protect the environment and create a cleaner, more sustainable future.
We envision a future where responsible used oil management becomes a shared responsibility, helping protect our environment, conserve natural resources, and strengthen communities. Through awareness, collaboration, and meaningful action, we aspire to create a society where waste is valued as a resource, people are empowered with opportunities, and sustainable practices become part of everyday life. Together, we hope to build a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient tomorrow for generations to come.

Used oil is something children rarely learn about, even though it is generated every day by vehicles, machines, workshops and industries. Introducing used oil awareness in schools can help students understand responsible collection and recycling, while also teaching them about environmental protection, worker safety and better waste management habits.

Used oil collection is an important part of responsible waste management, but the people doing this work need attention too. Collectors face everyday risks while handling used oil, making proper training, safety measures, healthcare and support important for their well-being.

Used oil may disappear from sight when poured onto the ground, but its impact doesn't. Improper disposal can harm soil, contaminate water, and waste valuable resources. Responsible collection and recycling offer a safer way to manage used oil and protect the environment.

Many people are unaware of the impact that improper disposal of used oil can have on our environment. Through our public awareness campaigns, we work to educate communities about responsible used oil management, its environmental benefits, and the importance of recycling. By reaching people through workshops, events, digital platforms, and community initiatives, we aim to encourage small changes that can make a lasting difference for our planet.

Environmental regulations play an important role in protecting people and the planet. Through this programme, we help individuals and businesses understand the importance of managing used oil responsibly while following the right environmental practices. By spreading awareness about responsible handling, storage, and disposal, we encourage actions that support a cleaner and more sustainable future.
Voices from our community
Before RUOMF, I worked without any safety equipment and constantly worried about my health. Now, I have an electric vehicle, proper training, and regular medical check-ups for my family. My life has completely changed.

The Story of Used Oil Only a Few People Talk About
Used oil is part of our everyday life, but very few people think about what happens to it after it is collected. There’s an awareness gap - not just around responsible collection and recycling, but also around the people who handle used oil at the grassroots level. Their safety, health and well-being matter too. RUOMF Foundation was created to help bridge that gap by bringing together people, businesses, collectors, recyclers and communities for a safer and more responsible used-oil system. Because responsible used oil management should protect both the environment and the people behind the work. #UsedOilRecycling #ResponsibleRecycling #EnvironmentalAwareness #CollectorSafety
Your donation helps us create lasting environmental impact through awareness, education, research, and community engagement. It supports initiatives that encourage responsible used oil management, empower communities with knowledge, and promote sustainable practices that protect our environment for future generations.
We work with policymakers, industry stakeholders, and institutions to encourage stronger frameworks for responsible used oil management. By contributing knowledge and practical insights, we aim to support policies that protect the environment while benefiting communities.
Young people have the power to shape a more sustainable future. Through workshops, campus programmes, competitions, and volunteer opportunities, we encourage students and young professionals to become ambassadors for responsible environmental practices.
At RUOMF, we recognize the importance of partnerships and collaborations in achieving development goals. In 2026, we partnered with a local government agency to launch a program that provided vocational training to youth in West Bengal. Our partnership resulted in a significant increase in employment outcomes and a reduction in youth unemployment.
Founding of RESPONSIBLE USED OIL MANAGEMENT FOUNDATION
Responsible Used Oil Management Foundation (RUOM Foundation) was established in West Bengal, India, with a vision to promote responsible used oil management while creating a positive impact on people and the environment. Led by Prachi Hamirbasia, the Foundation works to raise awareness, support communities, and encourage sustainable practices that contribute to a cleaner and more circular future.
Future Plans
Looking ahead to 2027 and beyond, we are excited about the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. We plan to expand our programs to new areas, including West Bengal, India. We will continue to innovate and adapt to changing circumstances, and we will remain committed to our core values of community empowerment, inclusive development, and environmental sustainability.
